Meridian Local Scoop

Happy Saturday, Meridian!

Welcome to issue one hundred seven. Today is partly cloudy and around 59, and the Pacific storm is politely waiting until about 7 p.m. to rain on Halloween, which is more courtesy than most storms show.

Today: a council vote on a Ten Mile and Franklin corner, gas prices dropping, Amazon drones landing in Nampa, six Meridian events, the forecast, and a trivia question about a coffee chain. Know someone who should be reading this? Forward them the sign-up link →

Let's get into it.

Trivia

🧠 The coffee chain in talks to put a drive-thru at Ten Mile and Franklin is based in which state: Arkansas, Oregon, or Texas?

Six picks, all with a Meridian address (one hotel listing skips the street number). Saturday is Halloween, but most of the neighborhood trunk-or-treats already ran in this week's issues, so today is a short list: a daytime trunk-or-treat and a Pokémon pre-release. Sunday has a dog-themed felting class, and next Saturday is a card-game double header at Phoenix Fire Games plus the Marine Corps Ball. Clocks fall back an hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, so enjoy the extra sleep. A few listings skip prices or end times, so check the event page before you go.

✅ Alerts: we could not pull a live NWS alert feed tonight, so check weather.gov/boi for watches or warnings. The NWS Meridian point forecast we normally use was last refreshed Oct. 19, so we did not use it. Today's numbers come from Idaho News 6/KBOI's same-day forecast and its live Boise strip.

Saturday, October 31 — Meridian

~59°

Partly cloudy to start, with a few showers on the Boise strip. KBOI says rain could hold off in the Boise metro until around 7 p.m., then several hours of steady rain Saturday night, so the trick-or-treat window is mostly dry but the walk home may not be. No overnight low was published, and with no fresh NWS Meridian number we cannot say whether Meridian runs warmer or cooler than Boise, so plan for a few degrees either way. Sunrise is about 8:20 a.m. and sunset about 6:37 p.m. (both calculated, not from NWS).

The rest of the weekend: Sunday stays showery and cooler, near 53, with west to northwest gusts of 20 to 40 mph across the Snake River Plain. Monday turns drier. Snow is possible in the mountains mainly above 6,500 feet. Clocks fall back at 2 a.m. Sunday, which moves Sunday's sunrise to about 7:21 a.m. and sunset to about 5:35 p.m. NWS Boise →

Ten Mile and Franklin corner rezoned, with a drive-thru coffee shop in talks

Empty lot with survey stakes next to a church at a suburban Idaho intersection

The Meridian City Council voted unanimously to rezone about 12 acres at the northwest corner of Ten Mile and Franklin roads, next to Ten Mile Christian Church, BoiseDev reports. The council also changed an existing development agreement on about 5 acres there. Applicant Michael Meuret says he is buying the land from the church, and his concept plan shows more than 52,000 square feet of offices, retail, restaurants and drive-thrus. He says he is talking with 7 Brew Coffee about a 500-square-foot drive-thru shop, but a signed lease is "far out." The staff report says the church wants the changes to pay down debt, which Meuret put at about $9 million.

The rezone moves the land from neighborhood business to community business, which drops the 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. hours limit. Several council members worried about Ten Mile traffic, and the last traffic study for the property dates to 2005; an abbreviated new one is underway. Mayor Robert Simison said Highway 16 and the Linder Road overpass should wrap up in fall or early winter 2027. Meuret expects construction is at least a year away. Idaho gas falls to $4.58 a gallon

Gas pump nozzle at a station on an autumn morning

Idaho's average for regular unleaded was $4.58 a gallon on Friday, AAA says, according to Idaho News 6/KBOI. Boise averaged $4.66, and the story gives no separate Ada County number, so Boise is the closest local read. For comparison, the statewide average was about $4.95 in early October.

One caution: the story says the average fell four cents last month, but also that it is down from $4.98 over the past month, and those two figures do not square. Treat the exact size of the monthly drop as unsettled; the $4.58 price itself is the number to trust. Read more →

Amazon drone delivery launches in Nampa

Delivery drone carrying a package over a suburban backyard

Amazon's Prime Air drone delivery officially launched in Nampa on Friday, Idaho News 6 reports. Service runs from a Prime Air facility in Nampa and covers a 170-square-mile radius, but the story does not say which cities or neighborhoods are inside it, so we cannot tell you whether Meridian is in range. Today it is open to eligible customers in Nampa.

Prime members get free drone delivery on orders of $50 or more and pay $2.99 on smaller ones; non-Prime customers pay $4.99 per delivery. (This is our one regional item today, since it may point toward your front porch someday.) Read more →

🧠 Trivia answer: Arkansas.

BoiseDev describes 7 Brew as an Arkansas-based coffee chain. It reports the company is planning one location at The Village at Meridian and another in an old car wash in Boise, and that a State Street site in Boise did not move forward because the company wanted a dual-lane drive-thru. That is a lot of drive-thru lanes for a company whose Ten Mile and Franklin shop would be just 500 square feet. Read more →
