Happy Monday, Meridian!
Welcome to issue one hundred two. Today starts with scattered showers and a high near 60, which is Mother Nature's way of reminding you that the car you washed yesterday was a donation to the sky.
Today: a statewide holiday card contest your West Ada artist can enter, a short list of Meridian events from toddler crafts to Tuesday bingo, the week's forecast (Halloween looks chilly), and a trivia question about a Meridian guy who outlasted everyone on a desert island. Let's get into it.

Idaho's student holiday card contest

The Idaho Department of Education is running its annual holiday card contest, and it is open to K-12 students in public and charter schools across the state, which includes every West Ada kid with a marker. An entry is a winter or holiday scene on a standard 8.5-by-11 sheet of paper, done in markers, watercolor, crayons or colored paper. Superintendent Debbie Critchfield said in a department news release that the office receives many submissions every year, which makes choosing winners a fun challenge.
Winning entries from each grade will be displayed on the department's website, and one K-6 winner and one 7-12 winner will appear on the department's official holiday cards. BoiseDev's write-up does not list a deadline or a mailing address, so check the department's contest page at sde.idaho.gov before anyone starts gluing glitter. This one is statewide rather than strictly Meridian, but your fridge-door artist qualifies. The full guidelines and mailing details are on the department's page, linked in the story →
