🧠 Trivia: Meridian's all-time record high is a sizzling 111°F. This morning's forecast low is about 34°F. How many degrees apart are those two: 67, 77 or 87?
(Answer at the bottom.)
Why Overseas Producers Can't Undercut Atlas Salt, Even for Free
Cities are already running short on road salt, and winter hasn't even started. Some supply bids are going unanswered, prices have nearly doubled in parts of the market, and the backup plan is two weeks away by boat. Here's why Atlas Salt (TSXV: SALT | OTCQX: SALQF) can get salt to the people who need it most, faster and cheaper than anyone shipping from overseas:
• Three days by ship to Boston, not fourteen
• Shallow deposit that's cheaper and faster to mine
• Projected C$188M a year in free cash flow
• Export Development Canada interested in lending C$150M
• Early supply deal with top U.S. salt distributor

Six picks from today through Halloween Saturday, and every one has a Meridian address. The calendars are thin from Monday to Thursday, so this weekend is the one to plan around. Several listings skip the price, so check the event page before you go.

What Prop 1 and HJR 4 actually do

Meridian voters have two statewide questions on the Nov. 3 ballot, and Idaho News has a plain-English breakdown of both. HJR 4 is a constitutional amendment that would give the Legislature sole authority over whether marijuana and certain other substances can be legalized, which would end the citizen ballot-initiative route for them. It would not legalize marijuana, and if it fails, current law stays and citizens can still file initiatives.
Proposition 1 is a citizen initiative that would write statutory protections for reproductive health care, including abortion, contraception and fertility treatments, plus a right to privacy, and it would loosen the current abortion restrictions. It doesn't expressly repeal Idaho's parental consent law; opponents say its new rights could conflict with that law, a question that would need legal interpretation if it passes. The absentee-ballot request and registration deadline was Friday, Oct. 23, but you can still register at your polling place on Election Day, and Ada County has drop boxes at Meridian City Hall. Questions go to Ada County Elections at (208) 287-6860. Read the full explainer →
