Meridian Local Scoop

Happy Tuesday, Meridian!

Welcome to issue ninety-six. Today is mostly sunny and around 74, enjoy it, because a cold front is lining up for Friday with highs in the 50s.

Today: a freeway closes for a night, the city is hunting for Parks Commission volunteers (deadline is tomorrow), and the week ahead has Halloween Scary-Oke, a potion lab for tiny witches and a bike run out of The Village. Know someone who should be reading this? Forward them the sign-up link →

Let's get into it.

🧠 Trivia: Meridian's farmland exists because of a ditch. The Settlers' Irrigation Ditch turned dry sagebrush ground into something you could actually farm, and the railroad and the electric Interurban followed. Which of these arrived in Meridian first: the Settlers' irrigation ditch, the Union Pacific rail spur, or the Interurban station?

Glass Skin Goals? Meet Your Morning Upgrade

Glass skin is the fall beauty goal: a complexion that looks smooth, plump and luminous. Pique’s Carrara Marine Collagen makes supporting that glow a delicious part of your morning routine.

After 90 days on Carrara, 83% reported smoother skin, 80% reported plumper skin and 86% reported greater skin satisfaction.

Each serving combines Type I marine collagen to support skin radiance with rare Type II collagen, sourced from wild Hokkaido salmon, to support elasticity. Together, they bring skin support into a daily ritual that feels like a treat.

Two scoops blend into morning matcha for a creamy latte, making consistency easy as fall schedules fill up. A warm cup, a quiet moment and nourishment from within become part of the same routine.

For anyone pursuing that luminous glass-skin look through sweater season, Carrara adds a beauty upgrade to a habit they already love.

I-84 closes overnight between Ten Mile and Meridian Road

Interstate overnight closure with barrels, arrow board and power lines at dusk

All lanes of I-84 between the Ten Mile interchange (Exit 42) and the Meridian Road interchange (Exit 44) will close at 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, and are expected to reopen early Monday morning, Oct. 26. Traffic gets routed south to Overland Road, so follow the posted detour signs. The Idaho Transportation Department says to check 511.idaho.gov or the 511 app for live closure and delay updates before you head out.

The reason is power lines: Idaho Power crews need to safely reconfigure lines that cross the freeway. Which road project that work is in service of is spelled out in the full article. The project behind the closure is in the article →

🧠 Trivia answer: the Settlers' irrigation ditch.

The ditch was finished in 1892, and settlers needed that water to get their land patents. The Union Pacific rail spur followed in 1900 (it's now run by the Boise Valley Railroad). The Interurban electric line came last: residents raised $4,000 to build it, a station and generator building went up in 1912, and the line closed in 1928 after about 20 years of service.
