Let's get into it.

🧠 Trivia: The Meridian Idaho Temple, dedicated on Nov. 19, 2017, has an octagonal cap whose surface seems to change color depending on the sunlight. Which three colors does it shift between: blue-gray, gold and bronze; red, orange and pink; or green, silver and copper?

✅ No weather or air-quality alerts turned up in the sources we checked. The National Weather Service file for Meridian itself was last updated Tuesday, so read that as "we found nothing," not "there is nothing." NWS Boise is the place to check before you commit to outdoor plans.

Saturday, October 10 — Meridian

64°

Overnight low near 39°. Sunrise is at 7:52 a.m., sunset at 7:12 p.m.

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy after a cold front moved through Friday night. The NWS point forecast says 64° for today, but that file is four days old. Idaho News 6's live Boise strip says 62° and partly cloudy, and its forecast calls Saturday more than 20 degrees cooler than Friday. This time the live numbers run a little lower, so plan for the low 60s. NWS has a 30% chance of showers tonight, and Idaho News 6 says rain chances build through the weekend.

The rest of the week (NWS, from Tuesday's file; treat it as directional): Sunday tops out at 59 with a 20% chance of showers after noon (Idaho News 6 says upper 50s), Monday is 57 with a 20% chance of showers, and Tuesday is 60 with patchy morning fog. Idaho News 6 says temperatures stay in the 60s through next week, so this isn't a one-day dip. Dig out the jacket.

Eagle and Victory apartment plan drops from 250 to 210 units

A modern apartment and townhome community at golden hour

The developer behind a proposed apartment-and-townhome project at Eagle and Victory roads has trimmed the plan. According to BoiseDev, the project, called Emblem and led by Quarterra, a multifamily company backed by Lennar, is now 210 homes on just over 13.5 acres, down from 250 when BoiseDev reported on it in June. Parking dropped from 520 spaces to 484, and the dog park appears to be gone from the updated site plan.

The mix is 84 one-bedrooms and 126 two- and three-bedrooms. About 114 homes run 500 to 1,200 square feet and about 96 are bigger. The corner already has a Primrose School, a Starbucks and a retail building, with Idaho Fitness Factory and Black Rock Coffee Bar across the street. This is still early: the developer has to file a formal application with the City of Meridian, and no hearing dates have been set. Read more →

I-84 closes overnight Thursday near Ten Mile

A freeway overpass under construction at night with orange barrels

If you head west on I-84 late Thursday, plan another route. According to Idaho News 6, all lanes of the interstate will close between the Garrity and Ten Mile interchanges from 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, to 5 a.m. Friday. Crews will place bridge decks on the new State Highway 16 flyover ramps above I-84, and traffic will be routed onto Franklin Road. A detour map is linked in the station's story.

The article puts the closure on the Nampa side, but the Ten Mile exit is the one Meridian drivers know, so it's worth knowing before a late shift or a trip home from the west. The station didn't say which direction is affected, only that all lanes close. Read more →

🧠 Trivia answer: blue-gray, gold and bronze.

According to Wikipedia's entry on the Meridian Idaho Temple, the titanium surfacing on the octagonal cap shifts between blue-gray, gold and bronze depending on the sunlight. The temple, dedicated Nov. 19, 2017, is about 120 feet tall, covers 67,331 square feet on a 15.73-acre site, and is Idaho's fifth temple. It was built to exceed seismic code, with exterior cladding tied to the steel frame so it absorbs earthquake energy by rocking. Syringa, Idaho's state flower, shows up in the decorative motifs.
