Meridian Local Scoop

Happy Tuesday, Meridian!

Welcome to issue one hundred three. Today is mostly sunny with a high near 56, which is the weather's polite way of saying jacket on, patio chairs optional.

Today: the Eagle restaurant that wants a second home next to Scheels, a Circle K filing on Chinden, a City Hall art show opening next week, five Meridian events from tonight's Commander Night to Sunday's toy-drive motorcycle ride, the week's forecast (Halloween looks chilly), and a trivia question about the road that splits Meridian's addresses in half. Know someone who should be reading this? Forward them the sign-up link →

Let's get into it.

🧠 Trivia: Meridian addresses read "E. Fairview" or "N. Linder" because they are measured from a single intersection. According to Wikipedia, Meridian Road crosses which road at the center of that grid: Fairview Avenue, Franklin Road or Ustick Road?

Crave Kitchen & Bar names its second location: Ten Mile Crossing

A warm modern restaurant with a bar, dining room and enclosed patio at dusk

The restaurant and bar proposed across from Scheels now has a name. Eagle's Crave Kitchen & Bar is the team behind the 8,539-square-foot building planned at 716 S. Wayfinder Ave. in Ten Mile Crossing, according to BoiseDev, with an opening slated for next fall. It would add about 100 jobs. Managing Partner Derek Hood said the group wants to bring the Crave experience to Meridian. The original opened in 2020 in the Bridges at Lakemor development, and this is unrelated to Crave Delivery, which no longer operates in the Treasure Valley.

The Meridian location is described as resembling the Eagle restaurant, and the menu is promised to add some dishes developed just for this site. The planned layout and what's new on the Meridian menu are in the article →

A Circle K files for a Chinden Blvd. store

A convenience store with a fuel canopy along a suburban highway at dusk

Circle K, which left the Treasure Valley in 1999 when Meridian-based Jacksons Food Stores bought its 45 local locations, has filed an application with the City of Meridian for a store on Chinden Boulevard between Black Cat Road and Highway 16. BoiseDev reports the planning documents describe a roughly 5,200-square-foot store with a six-pump fuel canopy and a cafe with hot food, ordering kiosks and seating. The article's embedded map points to 6440 N. Levi Ave., but it does not print an address.

Only two Treasure Valley sites have reached the application stage: this one and a Kuna store at Deer Flat and Meridian roads that is already under construction. The article does not say when the city will review the Meridian proposal. Read more →

City Hall's "Arrival" art show opens Nov. 2

A small gallery with landscape paintings, still lifes and ceramic vessels

The Initial Point Gallery inside Meridian City Hall is hanging a new group show called "Arrival," running Nov. 2 through Nov. 25. It features landscapes, still lifes and ceramic vessels by five local artists: Pamela Trail, Beth Trott, Amy J Smith, Bruce Tarbet and Rolland Fletcher, in media including acrylic, oil pastels, charcoal and sculpture. The city says the work invites viewers to be present in the moment and see the beauty in everyday life.

The artists will be on hand for a reception Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the gallery. BoiseDev's write-up, based on a city press release, does not list gallery hours or a cost. Read more →

🧠 Trivia answer: Franklin Road.

Wikipedia says Meridian's street names indicate direction relative to the intersection of Franklin Road and Meridian Road, which is why an address like Phoenix Fire Games' 94 E. Fairview Ave. reads "E." for east of Meridian Road. The same page notes the city sits on a flat plain in the north-central Treasure Valley, crisscrossed by irrigation canals that mostly run southeast to northwest. Read more →
