🧠 Trivia: Meridian's Vertical View climbing gym has a 65-foot main wall, which is also the city's height limit for commercial buildings. How did the builders make it fit: dig part of the building below ground, tilt the wall back, or leave a hole in the roof?
(Answer at the bottom.)

Chaparral kindergarteners are learning to ride at school

Kindergarteners at Chaparral Elementary in Meridian are getting new bikes and learning to ride them in PE class, according to KBOI. Chaparral is the first school to receive bikes through the All Kids Bike program, thanks to a $9,000 donation from the Life Time Foundation.
The donation covers balance bikes, helmets and training for PE teachers. The idea is that kids build confidence and independence on two wheels at school, and maybe catch a lasting interest in cycling along the way. Read more →

A Meridian climbing group for people with Parkinson's

UpEnding Parkinson's Meridian, a chapter of a nationwide climbing program, meets Saturday mornings from 9 to 10:30 at Vertical View, the Idaho Press reports. Kelly Sheridan, a medical student at the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine, founded the group in August 2025 after volunteering with a chapter in Bozeman, Montana. About 10 to 12 people come regularly.
Meridian's Vicki Mello, diagnosed four years ago, said she was surprised she could climb even when she couldn't walk well. Other climbers told the paper that climbing is mentally and physically engaging and eased their hand tremors while they were on the wall. The piece notes climbing can help with core stability and grip strength. Read more →

🧠 Trivia answer: Dig part of the building below ground.
Meridian's city code limits commercial buildings to 65 feet, so Vertical View's builders sank part of the structure underground to fit its 65-foot main climbing wall, KIVI reported when the gym opened in early 2020. The gym has top-rope, lead and bouldering areas under one roof, plus stadium seating with power outlets, a hot yoga studio and a workout room. Read more →
