Business Brief: A self-pour taproom — with wood-fired pizza — is coming to north Meridian

A self-pour taproom beer wall and a wood-fired personal pizza

Pour-your-own-pint fans, this one's for you. Smokin' Oak Woodfired Pizza & Taproom has filed permits for a new Meridian spot at 191 W. Archerfield St., on the northwest corner of Meridian and McMillan roads. The draw is a self-pour wall: scan your ID, grab an RFID wristband, and pour anything from a one-ounce taste to a full pint of beer, wine, cider or a mixed cocktail — you're charged by the ounce. Pair that with 10-inch wood-fired pizzas (14 flavors, plus build-your-own), cheesy bread and a wood-fired apple pie, and it's a solid new reason to head north. No opening date yet. Read more →

Heads up: overnight ramp work at the Eagle Rd./I-84 interchange

Nighttime highway on-ramp repaving with cones and work lights

If Eagle Road is part of your weekend routine, build in a minute of cushion. The Idaho Transportation Department is repaving several ramps at the I-84 and Eagle Road interchange (Exit 46) during overnight closures that began last week, and the eastbound off-ramp is closed through Sunday, July 26. Crews work overnight to keep daytime traffic moving, but detours are in place — so give yourself extra time, or use Meridian Road or Ten Mile as a backup, until everything reopens. Read more →

New this week: a free downtown concert series hits Generations Plaza

Downtown outdoor summer evening concert with a live band and families

Downtown Meridian is getting a new summer soundtrack. The City of Meridian just launched Main Street Mix, a free live-music series on the Generations Plaza stage downtown, and the first show lands this Wednesday, July 29, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Think easy weeknight vibes: grab a bite from a nearby spot, bring the kids, and catch live tunes in the heart of Old Town — no ticket required. Meme of the Day

Brought to you by Meridian Local Scoop.

Trivia answer: the Boise Meridian. Meridian sits on the Boise Meridian — the principal north–south survey line established in 1867 that nearly all of Idaho's public land is measured from. The line runs right through the area, the town grew up along it, and when locals needed a name, they borrowed the one already running under their feet. Not bad for a city named after a line you can't even see.
